Harbor Health is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to join our finance team as we scale our payvider operations. This newly created role will report to the Controller and play a key part in building scalable accounting processes across our multi-entity structure, which includes our health insurance plan, medical entities, and ACO operations. The ideal candidate thrives in startup environments, brings solid technical accounting expertise, and can help establish foundational processes while managing day-to-day accounting operations. This remote position requires someone who can work independently, make sound judgments, and contribute to the financial infrastructure supporting our mission to transform healthcare delivery in Texas.

Responsibilities

Accounting Operations & Financial Close

• Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes across multiple legal entities
\r\n
• Manage general ledger accounting activities including journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis
\r\n
• Assist with consolidation of financial statements across health plan, medical, and ACO entities
\r\n
• Prepare and review accounting transactions, ensuring compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements
\r\n

Process Development & Controls

\r\n
• Help design and implement scalable accounting processes, policies, and procedures to support organizational growth
\r\n
• Support establishment and maintenance of internal controls framework
\r\n
• Document standard operating procedures for accounting functions
\r\n
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and increased efficiency
\r\n

Technical Accounting & Compliance

\r\n
• Apply technical accounting knowledge to healthcare and insurance industry-specific transactions
\r\n
• Research and resolve accounting issues, including evaluation of new accounting standards
\r\n

Team Leadership & Collaboration

\r\n
• Supervise accounting staff and provide guidance on technical issues
\r\n
• Partner with Controller and senior finance team on accounting initiatives
\r\n
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including FP&A, operations, and clinical leadership
\r\n
• Support external audit processes and coordinate with external auditors
\r\n

Systems & Reporting

\r\n
• Utilize accounting systems and ERP platform to optimize accounting operations
\r\n
• Prepare financial reports and analysis for leadership and stakeholders
\r\n
• Support implementation of new accounting systems or system upgrades as needed
\r\n

Desired Skills

Required

• Bachelor\'s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
\r\n
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
\r\n
• Solid technical accounting knowledge with application of GAAP principles
\r\n
• Experience with multi-entity accounting, preferably in healthcare, insurance, or related industries
\r\n
• Experience building or improving accounting processes in growth-stage or startup environments
\r\n
• Experience with financial statement consolidation and account reconciliations
\r\n
• Proficiency with ERP/accounting systems and advanced Excel skills
\r\n
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational abilities
\r\n
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
\r\n
• Self-starter who thrives with minimal supervision and can manage competing priorities independently
\r\n

Preferred:

• Healthcare payor, provider, or payvider accounting experience
\r\n
• Public accounting experience
\r\n
• Experience with accounting system implementations or optimizations
\r\n
• Experience with multi-entity accounting, preferably in healthcare, insurance, or related industries
\r\n
• Advanced degree (MBA, MAcc) or additional certifications (CMA, CIA, CPA)
\r\n
